why does my beach cruiser bicycle chain keep slipping off?

I think maybe the rear wheel's nuts are slipping off of the bolts, but I'm tightening them very tight. Is the downward angle of the slot the wheel fits in a design flaw for the beach cruiser?

  1. Make sure the wheel is straight when you tighten down the nuts. Don't forget to loosen the clamp that is on the coaster brake lever so you can move the wheel back. You want to be able to move the chain up or down 1/2 inch at the center between the sprockets. http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=27
  2. no. if you have multiple gears your durailer is probably adjusted wrong. to make sure, just take it into your local bike shop. they usually don't charge for just telling you what's wrong with the bike, but that's the best way to find out for sure and get the problem fixed
